Private yacht charter on Lake Issyk-Kul: season, best bays, sunset sailing and dinner on board, planned by xtravel for couples, families and teams.

Our tours
See allMost visitors only ever see Issyk-Kul from the shore — from a hotel balcony, a beach lounger, or the winding road into Cholpon-Ata. Yet the true scale of the lake only lands when you are a couple of kilometres out, the shoreline shrinks to a thin strip, and the snow-capped Tien Shan ranges rise on both sides of the water. A private yacht is the most relaxed way to experience it: no crowds, your own pace, and a route that bends around your day.
Sitting at roughly 1,600 metres, Issyk-Kul never freezes, but the comfortable sailing season runs through the warm months, roughly June to September. July and August are swimming months — the water along the north shore warms up best, and dropping anchor in a quiet bay to jump off the stern quickly becomes the highlight of the trip. June and September are calmer and cooler, ideal if you value empty water and soft light. The 2026 season has now closed, so this is the right moment to plan summer 2027: the best dates and boats are reserved early.
Most charters start on the north shore around Cholpon-Ata, where the lakeside infrastructure and the most convenient moorings are. From there you can cruise along the coast to sheltered bays, anchor for a swim and be back in time for sunset. The south shore has an entirely different character — fewer people, red cliffs, small fishing villages — and pairs beautifully with time on land, as we describe in our guide to Skazka Canyon and the quiet side of the lake.

Wind on the lake can shift quickly, so the captain always makes the final call on departure time. We build a backup slot into every itinerary: if the morning turns choppy, the sail moves to the evening and you don't lose the day.
Our most requested format sets off a couple of hours before sunset. First a swim and light bites, then the sun drops behind the western end of the lake and, for a few minutes, the peaks across the water glow pink. Dinner is designed around you — from fresh Issyk-Kul fish with seasonal vegetables to a traditional Kyrgyz table with beshbarmak. A komuz player, a photographer or an anniversary cake can be added on request.

A day on the water shines brightest as part of a well-built stay. We combine it with lakeside accommodation — a hotel or a private villa near the water — and add experiences ashore: gorges, horse rides, ancient petroglyphs. For an unhurried introduction to the lake, our six-day journey around Issyk-Kul is a natural fit, while guests looking to recharge often pair the yacht with sunrise yoga and banya rituals from our Issyk-Kul wellness retreat.

For couples we choose a compact yacht and an intimate sunset plan; for families, a boat with easy water access, a gentle route, children's life jackets and a kids' menu. For companies and teams we scale up with catering, a programme and transfers — see our corporate travel page for more. We vet the vessel and crew, match the route to the forecast and handle every step from the airport to the pier. All you need to choose is the date and the view.
